A whole week.
A wider world.
A global celebration of the ways space science and technology enrich life on Earth, held each year from 4–10 October.
A worldwide idea.
A New Zealand connection.
KiwiSpace helped bring World Space Week to New Zealand audiences in 2011 and 2012.
The 2011 programme encouraged people to take part through local activities and online conversations. A public video session with cosmonaut Dmitry Kondratyev on 6 October connected New Zealanders with first-hand experience of living aboard the International Space Station.
KiwiSpace’s history also includes New Zealand coordination of the 2012 celebration. These activities sat alongside the organisation’s wider interest in school science, international connections and opening up access to space.
World Space Week New Zealand continues separately today, managed by the New Zealand Astrobiology Network. For the present programme and opportunities to participate, visit its current website.
